With the return of children to school, come the first hints of Autumn. I think that was accelerated this September by the cool and wet weather and the huge glut of apples! However the trees are only just starting to turn so cutting hazel in the coppice won’t commence until the beginning of October. Cutting takes place in the winter, when the sap is down. The rods are then stored until they are needed in the spring for chair making courses. If you are visiting the Arboretum you may hear the drone of our chain saws and see us working in the distance.

If you are looking for a gift for loved ones; a day in the woods and a chair to take home makes a lovely present. Do be in touch and I can send you a voucher.
